Text | Drowned -- On Wednesday evening of last week, Mr. F. DeVeaux, with others, went into the river above the grist-mill for the purpose of bathing. He was probably taken with a fit, or cramping. He was observed struggling in the water but caused no alarm as he was known to be one of the best of swimmers and his comrades supposed he was merely diving or performing some other evolutions. Becoming alarmed at his disappearance, they went to his assistance and found him in shoal water, already dead. All efforts to resuscitate him were found altogether unavailing.
Mr. DeVeaux kept the Exchange Hotel, and had lived here many years. He leaves a family. |
